Industrial Powder Coating vs. Traditional Liquid Paints

Powder coating uses electrostatically-applied dry pigmented powders to cover industrial equipment, instead of a liquid paint. Once the dry powder is applied (usually to a metal surface), it’s cured either with ultraviolet light or heat — as opposed to liquid paint solvent. Industrial and commercial powder coating leaves your equipment with a hard, tough, and lasting finish that’s more rugged and durable than traditional paint. Industrial powder coating can be used to cover:

  • Fleet and military vehicles
  • Heavy construction or agricultural equipment
  • Aircrafts and aircraft walkways
  • Radio towers
  • And more

Not only can powder coating cover large equipment quickly, it also has a host of other advantages. One of the primary benefits is protecting your metal equipment against rust build-up. The powder coating seals your equipment and helps prevent the oxidation process that creates rust from occurring. Some of the other advantages of industrial and commercial powder coating services include:

  • Not having to wait for liquid paint to dry
  • Customized color and Class A finishing options
  • Greater protection against corrosion and abrasions
  • Cost-effective materials
  • Easier equipment cleaning
  • Safer, solvent-free finishing
  • Less labor costs because it’s sprayed on

Your Industrial & Commercial Powder Coating Questions Answered

How long will it last?

As long as you maintain your powder coating, especially if your equipment or vehicle is used in a harsh environment, it should last at least 10 years. However, this can vary depending on the type and quality of the powder selected.

How is the powder applied?

Unlike wet paint, the powder goes through a process called electrolysis which means the metal and powder are charged and then cured in an oven up to 400 degrees.

Is industrial powder coating safe?

Our process at Matlab Inc is designed with keeping the environment in mind. The powder we use is actually toxic-free and environmentally safe. The powder lets off very small amounts, if any at all, of VOCs.

How long does the powder coating process take?

Typically, it takes 7-10 business days; however, this may vary depending on what you are having powder coated, the material being coated, and different variables of the commercial powder coating process. When you contact us for a quote, we will be able to provide a better estimate for you.
